South georgia island

South Georgia Island is an Island in the South Atlantic Ocean that is part of British Overseas Territory of South Georgia. It lies around 1400 km east of the Falklands. Average weather is 15 degrees F.   It is a Mountainous barren island with peaks and glaciers, thousands of penguins, albatross, ducks and marine animals. There are British Antarctic Survey stations at Grytviken, site of an old whaling station, Our cruise on an Aurora Expedition ship Started in Ushuaia then on to the Falklands.  Arriving at South Georgia we visited Grytviken, St Andrews Bay and Gold Island where elephant seals live, and Elephant Island.  The weather worsened and we had to leave the area.  We spent time in the Weddell Sea (does Shackleton sound familiar?) to search for fossils on James Ross Island, a couple visits to the Continent and then on to South Shetland Islands and Antarctica Peninsula.

NorthWest Passage

Come along with my photos for an Arctic adventure with rare wildlife, hardy cultures, & glorious ice & rock formations, even smoking hills! Search for polar bears, walrus, ringed seals, belugas, bow-head & narwhal. whales.  The  British searched for over 300 years to find a way through this passage. Tales of ships and men lost are numerous and their graves and Memorials are on the Islands.  Many of the straits channels, island etc are named for early explorers. Many buildings scattered on the islands are evidence of Hudson's Bay company activities collecting furs  from the natives.  Only since Global  Warming has occurred are ships able to navigate the passages all the way through  We were on the 424rd ship to transverse Greenland to Alaska.
The Northwest Passage is the sea lane between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic Ocean, along the northern coast of North America via waterways through the Arctic Archipelago of Canada. The eastern route along the Arctic coasts of Norway and Siberia is accordingly called the Northeast Passage. Wikipedia

African Safari

An African Safari is a wonderful experience, and time in Africa involving several safaris is even more amazing. Up at 5:30 every morning and in the trucks for the Game Drive by 6:00 takes some getting used to, but the anticipation of what I will see each day makes the early rising well worth it.

The photos on this page were taken in multiple places: Arusha National Park, Ngorongoro Caldera, and Serengeti National Park, all in Tanzania, and Sabi Sands near Kruger National Park in South Africa. The land areas and habitats of the Parks and Caldera are different, and there are some differences in the animals one will see, but the wonder of the massive herds, variation in individual species, and beauty of the birds can’t adequately be described.

Serengeti National Park has UNESCO designation, as is Kruger NP, and the Okavango Delta of Botswana

More Visits to Africa These photos were taken in several countries of Africa 1. Lemurs of Madagascar. 2. Sossusvile of Namibia 3 Tunesia 4.Morocco

Pyramids Valley of the Kings and Temple of Karnak in Egypt

Karnak Temple is located in Thebes, which is now (Modern Luxor) and is actually a temple complex, formerly known as Ipet-isut (Most select of places) by the ancient Egyptians. It is a city of temples built over 2000 years and dedicated to the Theben triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.

The great temple at the heart of Karnak is so big that St Peter’s, Milan, and Notre Dame Cathedrals could be lost within its walls. The Hypostyle hall, at 54,000 square feet with 134 columns, is still the largest room of any religious building in the world.

Tarcoles River

Costa Rica

The Tarcoles River is formed by the convergence of two rivers, the Virilla and the Grande de San Raman, and empties into the Pacific Ocean. In total, the river’s watershed covers over 2000 km. It forms the northern border of the Carara Biological Reserve and helps important agricultural areas of the country. In addition to its agricultural significance, the river also helps generate electricity. It is, however, not a good place to swim, as it is highly polluted.

The river is perhaps best known for its abundance of American crocodiles. It’s said that the Tarcoles River has one of the highest populations of crocodiles in the entire world, with roughly 25 crocodiles per square kilometer.

Several tour operators take advantage of this fact by offering river tours that guarantee croc sightings. Much of the time, these large reptiles (which can grow to a length of seven meters) can be spotted swimming through the river or sunbathing along the banks.

In addition to the crocodiles, the river also supports more than 50 species of migratory, native, and coastal birds, including a variety of herons and egrets, crested caracas, roseate spoonbills, scarlet macaws, and more. Iguanas can often be spotted scampering about the sides of the river as well.
